The most important thing to do, ever, probably

September 9th, 2009

Register all variants of any domain name you may have a use for.

I recently had a visitor to my office who has a very exciting product to launch. I asked him what his URI was, he said the address, it ended with com as in telecom, so I typed it in with one M, as you might.  Ah , horror of horrors it was not his, the URI he had registered and was using, ended with two Ms. Needless to say, before our meeting was over we checked all variants of his domain and spent money with the registrar accordingly.

My advice only, you don’t have to take it.

Work Experience Placement

July 2nd, 2009

We have a young person with us on Work Experience for a fortnight, newer than a newbie on Monday morning he is coming on leaps and bounds, see adamrmorris.co.uk .  Does  anyone else have a work experience placement? Should we have more? Should there be better incentives for employers to take on young people? We are a small Company with an even smaller training budget, how do we encourage new people into the business, lots of questions, any answers?

Free gifts for everyone!

October 28th, 2008

We should all be vary wary about the word FREE, as it is more often than not, incorrectly used. Probably the tag line ought to read, we will give you something in exchange for something else which is not of immediate monetry value. As the item offered as “free”, often is given in exchange for information of some type, even if the information is gathered seruptisiously.

We have just added Eukanuba to Wabbit, Free puppy food, in exchange for information about your dog and all your personal details including your date of birth.

Simply knowing there is a puppy at your home address has a good value, added facts like your age, the dogs age , breed and so on must be worth much more than a sample pack of dog food, one per household. Someone will have a monetry value to each piece of personal information freely given, there is that word free again.

We sometimes send out free chocolates, as a thank you to customers who have bought chocolates from us and had them sent to someone else, usually as a present. So what do we get back? We get a very happy customer, who not only has chosen our products to give away but has now been able to sample the same products given in the present. What value does a doubly happy customer have?

Networking, Past, Present, Future

September 7th, 2008

Networking clubs are emerging as fast as local pubs are closing, or so it appears. That is not where the connection ends.  Once upon a time a visit to the local would begin with a personal greeting from the host, your peer group, friends and business acquaintances would probably be there. A good time would be had by all, socialising, exchanging views on various topics and occasionally a business deal would be struck or the initial contact for a business deal would be made.

Therefore, I consider the local pub was the general networking club of the past.  There have been specialised trade networking clubs for centuries and they will probably prosper well into the future, probably because they are not primarily businesses for profit.

So what happened?  Probably the cost of running a local pub has outstripped the gain, or what we know as ROI, return on investment, a local pub is a business the same as any other business and a profit is desirable whether it be trading profit or realised upon disposal of the asset.

The networking club of today does have a different structure to the local pub although many simalies can be made.

The pub landlord, would not charge for entry to the pub, but a per item charge would be made on all products consumed, except maybe a few stale salted peanuts left on the bar to encourage further consumption of liquids. Fair enough, the whole profitability of a pub relies on over the counter sales. A landlord would not structure a meeting or conversation except on recognised quiet periods when Darts, Dominos, pool competitions and the like might be staged.

A local pub does still have a place and purpose to fulfill but like most traditional businesses a landlord will probably find it harder to make a profit under todays trading climate.

The networking club however often combines all the benefits of bringing together like minded people, providing a comfortable venue, structuring meetings on various subjects and where refreshments are provided, they will be of good quality, usually taking into account varying lifestyle diets, liquid refreshments will be vaied and of good quality.

The fee structure of todays networking club generally provides the bulk of its income, the members will want to feel they have value for money, however they perceve value.

What, may we ask, is the future of networking? Well I think I’ve seen it. I was recently invited to the launch of a Womens Business Club, yes I’m a man, (a major shareholder in our company is female) my gender was not held against me, I was made most welcome and fully included.

How good was my experience, well it was the best networking session ever, organisation, setting, seminars, refreshments and entertainment, all second to none. Even a film crew to record the event. No, it’s not my networking club, I’m not related and I’m not being paid for this blog.

Not only a physical entity, this club has an online presence which is promising to be an excellent resource center.

Principle, Jacqui Sesstien, has a plethora of experience and with the team she has assembled, I’m sure this network club is one to consider as the future of networking.

Wabbit is growing

August 25th, 2008

We need your help, with more than 2500 hand picked human moderated sites, Ask the Wabbit is growing by day and night. Our aim is to be the best Safe Search Engine in the UK.
Here’s where you come in, everyone wants decent exposure at reasonable cost, well how does decent exposure at zero cost sound? Too good to be true? No, it’s real, we make no charge, we don’t insist on a link back to us before an entry goes live, so what’s the catch? There isn’t one!

There is an ADD a SITE link on every page of Wabbit.

Yes, will will thoroughly check and periodically recheck every entry, we will contact publishers to ask for minor tweeks to sites in special circumstances.

We do provide banners, buttons and searchboxes if publishers would like to give Wabbit a place in their site and join the growing band of Wabbits friends.

So, what are you waiting for? go ADD a SITE and tell us about websites you think are ideal for inclusion, remember, if it’s suitable for your mum or your nine year old kid then it is probably suitable for Wabbit.

Independants can be good

July 5th, 2008

Our domain GamesTables.co.uk utilises independant merchant MadFun.co.uk . The reason for this blog entry is to assure other affiliates that there are good independent merchants managing their own affiliate programs quite successfully. Steve Madkins is the principle behind MadFun.co.uk , the support he gives his affiliates is second to none, equaling the support given by many networks and surpassing the support given by many I could mention. The great thing about Steve is his enthusiasm for his business, he knows if his affiliates are happy and making money, so is he. I’m sure we all agree, making money is what affiliate marketing is all about.

For Trampolines, Playcentres, Snooker, Pool, Air Hockey Tables, Above Ground Swimming Pools,

Go Karts, and loads more fun things, sign up with MadFun and reap the benefits, oh if only there were

a second tier on his commission rates, we can’t have everything perfect.

Affiliate Marketing Works

June 10th, 2008

It just takes time, Nine years for us, but nothing good comes quickly.

Well, not always true. This afternoon was partly spent adding sites to Wabbit, somthing we do on a regular basis.

One such site Bean Bag Bazaar I had just come across on Paid On Results a network I have not used a great deal, they will get more attention in future, here’s why. Within literally minuits we had a £91 sale, thank you annonymouse purchaser.

What I have always liked about POR is they support second tier affiliates, which encourages me to entice you to JOIN POR , so there we go, blatant marketing in search of that fi
